Why organ and tissue donation matters
Right now hundreds of thousands of children and adults around the world are awaiting a life-saving treatment as their only hope of survival.
This treatment can’t be created in a laboratory, swallowed as a tablet or injected as a medicine. In fact, in many ways, it’s not really a treatment at all. It’s a gift and – incredibly - it exists in each and every one of us. It’s the gift of an organ or tissue. Pretty amazing isn’t it?
Sadly, as well as a huge need for donor organs, there is also a desperate shortage of them. As a result, thousands of people around the world are dying every day. Only by more of us registering our wish to be donors of the future, can these lives be saved.
Each donor can save the lives of up to 8 children or adults by donating organs such as the heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, bowel and pancreas. They can also restore the sight to two patients through corneal donation and help multiple more by donating bone, skin, heart valves and tendons. You can choose to either donate all tissues and organs or to only donate certain ones.
